The Higher Education Powerhouse Indices (HEPI)

The Higher Education Powerhouse Indices (HEPI) measures higher education development in nearly 170 countries worldwide with nine key indicators across three dimensions: the Global Academic Centrality Index, the Global Science and Technology Centrality Index, and the Global Talent Centrality Index. The Global Academic Centrality Index comprises three indicators: expenditure on higher education as a percentage of GDP, ESI top 1%-ranking institutions in natural sciences, and RUC top 10%-ranking institutions in humanities and social sciences. The Global Science and Technology Centrality Index uses three indicators: Nature Index, R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP, and granted patents. The World Talent Centrality Index includes three indicators: Global Talent Competitiveness Index, Highly Cited Researchers, and Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals.
